I just read an article published today that made me feel great for VW again!
At first reading it might look like any other VW-bashing dieselgate report, but it isn’t. It highlights a change in attitude that we EV-crazy people have been waiting for … that the traditional car manufacturers are taking the switch to electric seriously. So seriously that they see their existence depends on it.
VW has been hit very hard by the discovery of their diesel emissions cheating. Their brand is in danger of never shaking off the negative image acquired over the last month. This damage, plus the potential fines over the coming years, could take the company close to a death spiral in fact. After all, margins in combustion car manufacture are not that high and a drop in sales plus these fines could mean the end.
So hearing that they are deciding to make a pure electric Phaeton with something like 500kms of range plus a standardized electric architecture for the VW group is awesome. They can and will clear their name if they do this right, and with all the engineering talent they have we should see some genuine Tesla beaters.
And if VW group make a serious switch to electric, others will need to stop procrastinating and start competing. The last ones to move will likely be the biggest losers, and thus begins the avalanche to our electric future!
Maybe now VW really *will* make this fantastic electric Kombi?? 🙂
Volkswagen is definitely contributing like any other manufacturer to the future of EV´s ;-))
Thx VW
