I wonder if it is much of a surprise that many of the Tesla Model S’s are being sold in the Bay Area, or Silicon Valley if you prefer. Essentially the towns South of San Francisco and North of San Jose.
There certainly are plenty of wealthy people there, and their interest in tech is high as most work in that field already. Then there’s the fact that they are well educated (a trait of most electric car buyers) and concerned about the environment.
Lets not forget that Tesla was started by some of the same high tech entrepreneurs and they are built in Freemont just a few miles away.
So, when I was over there recently it was no surprise to see a few Model S’s on the streets.
But a recent article in The Street by Anton Wahlman pointed out how far this was going.
They estimated at that up to 70% of all new luxury cars in hot spots like Menlo Park (VC central!) were Teslas!
And they even saw on one block 5 Teslas out of a total of 8 driveways.
A sign of things to come? I hope so.
