It’s time to go and get Drive & Dream’s new Model S. The first in Spain.
We could have asked for it to be delivered on a flatbed, but the cost is about the same for us to go and pick it up and also we get to test what its like to tour through Benelux and France in a serious electric vehicle. As drive & dream is expanding to all of Europe this is an important step.
The journey starts this Friday at about 3pm when we get the car and start driving South to Paris. The next day we drive on to Tours, through Poitiers and stop in Bordeaux. Then on Sunday we enter into Spain, charge at a fine Parador (Argomaniz) and then travel South to our base near Madrid.
So that should be 1750kms over about 55 hours door to door.
The route has been planned with the help of google maps (awesome route planning tool)…. here is the map, with some of the lunch and sleep stops marked.
And finally, when planning a trip in an EV you have to take into account the changes in height. If you look at the following awesome profile obtained from gpsvisualizer.com you will see that for the Benelux and Northern France regions there isn’t much to worry about, but when you get into Spain things change! And these are the main highways.
In the next post I will give details of the charge points, the complications found in planning, and the risks I foresee for the trip. Then as we do the trip we will see if things go better or worse than planned 🙂
To make the trip a real family roadtrip across Europe my wife and 3 teenage kids will be traveling too. It’s gonna be awesome (I hope)!
